About California Beach Wrestling
California Beach Wrestling was founded in April 2022 by Tod Blank, when California USA Wrestling hosted the state's first-ever Beach Wrestling Championship at Linda Mar Beach in Pacifica. That inaugural tournament drew just over 100 entries from athletes ages eight to 50, and from that first day on the sand, a community was born.

In the years since, California Beach Wrestling has transformed from a single local event into a premier hub for national sand competition. That momentum reached a milestone in August 2026, when California welcomed the prestigious U.S. Beach National Championships to Huntington Beach. The landmark event drew 294 athletes across 23 divisions, from youth 8U groups all the way to veteran Masters, and served as a competitive pipeline where top finishers qualified for the global Beach Wrestling World Series.
Today, California Beach Wrestling brings the sport of wrestling to the sand for wrestlers of every age and skill level, a place to compete, connect, and challenge themselves in the beautiful setting of California's beaches. Our community continues to grow around a shared love of the sport, a spirit of camaraderie, and a commitment to good sportsmanship, both for the athletes who compete and the spectators who cheer them on.
Our Mission
Our mission is to promote and develop beach wrestling throughout California. We host events throughout the year that give athletes the chance to compete in a fun, challenging environment, and we build pathways for our wrestlers to advance to national and international competition. Guided by the values of sportsmanship, discipline, and community, we are committed to developing both our athletes and the sport itself.
